Shopping is a skill that everyone uses daily to fulfill a need, want or desire at every age and in every culture. If you can imagine every relationship in your life as a store you shop in to get your needs met you will understand this metaphor. The key to successful shopping is to know specifically what you want and where to find it.
If you need a light bulb you go to the local hardware store. It is highly unlikely that you would shop for a light bulb at the dry cleaner. When extending the comparison to relationships the rule would be that if you want something you would seek out a person, place or thing that had it to sell and not to a person, place or entity that cannot provide it. However, it is not uncommon for someone looking to get married to shop at the Disney store. You cannot get your needs met if you are at the wrong store.
